Today we're back with my Jade, which no one will remember as the last video didn't get many views
0:07
So I'll quickly recap. It was started from a leaf I took on holiday in early 2018
0:12
It initially grew really well, then it got smashed by the sun and nearly died
0:17
I managed to save it, then it nearly died again when I moved here as it was too dark
0:23
So I put it in a smaller pot and left it under the grow light for a year, and this was the result
0:28
the result. That's genuinely the same plant, it just took off and grew like crazy
0:37
In February 2020 I decided it was healthy enough to be repotted. As you can see the
0:42
roots were coming out the bottom and it's planted in this lid from a shaving foam I think or something like that
0:58
It's pretty stuck in this little makeshift pot so it's definitely time for an upgrade
1:13
Although the roots were coming out the bottom, it looks like the ones growing in the pot
1:17
were nice and compact and healthy. I love the purple on the other side of the leaves
1:59
So I'm going to pot up in this little brown pot. It a whole lot bigger than what it was in but it actually still a very small pot I really like it I like the colour and the little wavy lines I just using a mix of 50 perlite and motor clay
2:28
I've sort of messed up here though. I can't work out if my perlite is bigger than usual
2:33
or if my motor clay is smaller than normal. I think it might be a bit of both
2:39
Either way, the particle sizes are not a great match. I've always found they are pretty similar in size
2:44
and I haven't had any issues before. But you can see here they're just a bit off
2:49
That's really why you should save your substrate, which I obviously can't be bothered to do
2:55
But looking at this now, I'm probably going to have to do it in the future. I'm just not a fan of what's going on here
3:03
I'm also not sure why I'm keeping the soda in a glass jar and using a fork to scrape it out
3:09
I have no idea what past me was doing. I'm definitely questioning my previous life choices at the minute
3:33
Anyway, I got this tree in the pot and it managed to stay in place
3:48
I then used a little bit of wire to poke the soil and get it in and around the roots
3:54
which would help it stay upright and make it a bit more secure in the pot. I think this might have been the first tree I repotted in the season, so I was a bit rusty
4:09
Maybe that's why I'm making a right mess of this. I don't know, that's my excuse for an eye anyway
4:20
So I got there in the end with little help from a few stones It went back under the grow light and it was left to settle in
4:38
It looks happy enough a few weeks later in April. By May it had settled in and I had got rid of the stones
5:05
I was thinking around this time about what I'm going to do with this going forward
5:10
Shall I keep it as two trunks like this or cut one off
5:15
I'm in no rush to decide what to do so for now I'm just going to let it grow out
5:19
I was sent the other grow light on the tent by Mars Hydro in July which is now my tropical
5:31
grow area so this jade went in there the light is amazing if you haven't seen my video on the
5:37
light check the description below for the links you can see the tree started growing some side
5:44
branches so it's doing excellent. It's grown so well since I nearly killed it last year but I
5:50
didn't notice something about my grow tent. Well the tent is perfectly fine but my bedroom floor
5:55
isn't. Apparently it isn't flat. I had this jade in the far back corner as I don't need to have
6:02
much access to it. I don't need to get it out as much so it sits in the back
6:08
anyway I didn't notice that all the excess water coming from the other pots in the tent
6:15
was draining and then rolling down into the back corner so this jade was basically sat
6:22
in a puddle of water not that you can tell now it looks so
6:26
healthy but then these lower leaves fell off I assumed they were just
6:30
old maybe it was an early sign of too much water though By September the two trunks had started to lean over
6:45
I couldn't see anything wrong, so I was just assuming it was getting too top heavy
6:54
A few days later I checked again and I noticed this. definitely something not right i tend to water everything and then leave it alone for 48 hours
7:07
by that time everything needs watered again apart from this tree which maybe gets watered once a week
7:15
so i wasn't noticing the pull of water at the back it had dried up by the time i was
7:21
checking in again so i was a bit confused here and tried to use a stone to keep everything upright
7:28
I couldn't quite work out what was going on. But I checked back after 24 hours again and seen the puddle and instantly everything made sense
7:40
So I had to take drastic action and basically cut both trunks off and just start as two new cuttings
7:48
I've then put them in the same pot, which should be fine. I've made the base of the tent flat
7:55
and I've also raised this pot onto a little stand so even if it does pull
8:01
this tree won't be sat in it so a total disaster
8:13
in the short time I've had this tree I've nearly killed it three times too much light, not enough light and now drowning
8:21
It was doing so well so hopefully it survives and gets back on track
8:29
Have you ever said jades were easy to grow? Clearly hasn't grown them in my house
8:35
Well at least they're tough fighters
