Today we're back my weeping willow. It has thickened up quite nicely so far but as you can see in
0:13
September it's stirring the turn colour. As individual leaves it's kind of ugly but when you take the tree as a whole the colours are amazing
0:24
there's all sorts of shades of yellows reds oranges and greens and browns I can't wait until
0:30
this is more refined I think it will look amazing a lot of people tell me that these drop branches
0:34
and have a lot of dieback as you can see here in October I've had something die in the middle on
0:39
the main trunk and then just a few little bits here and there the dead bits turn black so it's
0:45
easy to see them I've not lost anything major but I'm sure at some point in the future I will
0:54
Anyway, here it is in January. It's kind of leaning over in the pot, but you can see it has some crazy root growth
1:02
and some seriously long top growth. I'm not sure how well it's picked up on camera, but the change of colour in the branches from the
1:08
woody trunk to the yellow and orange and red branches is amazing. I also just pruning back here taking it back to the second set of buds in most places
1:33
Not making any real styling decisions as I can't really work out what is what until I
1:37
get it repolvered and more upright. So that's why it's looking kind of awful, probably like a letter Y, but we can sort
2:06
that out some other time. In March the buds start to swell
2:26
Again, amazing colours. Beautiful red buds. So as they were swelling it was the perfect time to repot
2:33
But I don't have any footage of it. I don't know if it didn't record or if I lost it on the computer
2:38
Either way I have nothing. I'm guessing I went really hard on the roots. That seems like what I'd do
2:43
But who knows I can remember at all So I guess we find out next year Anyway plenty of footage of us getting watered Hopefully you can see the trunk is more upright
2:56
Kind of means some of the branches and buds will now be pointing off at weird angles. Once they start growing, it should all sort of give the structure some cool movement
3:15
So not much happened in April, basically a few buds started to burst
3:45
In May it was leafing out and it looks awful but still in development and that's what happens
3:56
By June it had grown like crazy
4:06
It actually had grown so much it would start to weep under its own weight
4:10
But it way too early to be getting excited about weeping In July I decided it was getting a bit out of hand and I needed to trim it back
4:36
So I took it quite back hard, exactly as I did in the winter. I just took it to two or three sets of buds
4:41
I didn't make any styling decisions Right now I don't care I just want good growth
4:47
It's probably a few weeks too late doing this but we'll have a lot going on
4:53
and it's a strong growth so hopefully it'll put some okay shoots out by the end of the season
5:09
In August you can see the buds are pushing out again so hopefully it will keep pushing
5:23
and growing. Thank you
